We’re a South African family with a deep-rooted love for Braais (BBQs), good food, and the bold, unforgettable flavours of home. Our journey began in the heart of Roshnee, a vibrant little town near Johannesburg known for its rich cultural mix and legendary family feasts. It was here that our mum first learned the magic of cooking from her own mother—who brought with her the bold, spicy flavours of Mozambique, including the iconic peri peri that would later become a cornerstone of our kitchen.

Years later, Mum ran a small but much-loved takeaway in South Africa, where locals queued for her famous grilled chicken and hearty homemade meals. She cooked with love, soul, and the kind of spice that made you feel at home with every bite. When our family moved to the UK, settling in Ilford, London, we carried those same traditions with us—the smells, the flavours, and the joy of cooking over an open flame.

That passion inspired us to create CHOWZA—a celebration of our heritage and a way to share the flavours we grew up with. From our signature marinades to our hand-prepared meats, everything we make is rooted in love, tradition, and the spirit of the South African Braai.
